LED Household Lighting
Wolf-Lighting offers high quality LED light kits for kitchen under-cabinet lighting and other applications. Please read the following and browse installation example pictures on this site to understand how to custom order and easily-install affordable LED light kits for your kitchen or other application.
First of all it's important for you to know that our LED modules are sourced from US manufacturer HCI-LED in Evansville, Indiana, pioneers in the LED lighting industry with over 600 combined years of experience in signage and LED lighting. Their LEDs are industry-proven, UL-listed, commercial-grade, with a 5-to-7 year warranty, and used by over 150 sign companies all across the USA in rigorous applications such as outdoor lighted signage. There have been ZERO field failures in over 4 years with these modules. Beware of some modules out there. Some are cheaper but are "over driven" to give more brightness but sacrificing lifespan. Our LED module kits only use modules from HCI-LED. To learn more about this wonderful family-owned company, see HCI-LED.com.
HCI-LEDs are small and easy to peel and stick in place. Our "kits" come complete with everything you need to light a section of kitchen countertop or other application, including a power adapter to plug into an outlet. See pics on this site for example installations, and read on for an overview.
Our LED kits are available in the following white "shades": *
- Warm White.... 2900k Warm (similar to normal indoor incandescent color)
- White................. 4700k Similar to Florescent light color; our most affordable module
- Bright White.... 6500k Our brightest module for applications requiring maximum brightness
- Cool White....... 7200k Color is a "cool" white
(* Note: The above values are in "k" standing for "kelvin color temperature". There is a lot of rhetoric out there about which "k" value is "true" neutral white. In spite of what you may read online, 6500 IS true "neutral" white. Anything else is either yellow or blue by comparison. HCI-LED pioneered this standard years ago.)
Our modules are tiny and can be completely hidden under kitchen cabinets to illuminate the countertop (it's usually best to place them near the front of the bottom of kitchen cabinets to hide them from view. See pics.) Also, because they are small, with wires between, they can confirm exactly to your cabinets, changing direction as needed, and fitting the cabinet width.
They can often be installed without any tools for simple kitchen applications. Sometimes simple drilling or may be desired to pass the LEDs through a barrier between cabinets. You can see how to do this from the pictures too. We provide the white spring clips for this. You'll simply drill a small hole, cut the wires between any two modules, pass the wire through, strip a little insulation off, and reconnect with the spring clip (just press, insert, and release, like the speaker wire connections on the back of many home entertainment systems).
The LEDs are spaced 6 inches apart, so a string of 10 LED modules is about 5 feet long. Simply measure the width of your cabinets and that will tell you how many modules you need. For example, a 5 foot section of cabinets will require a 10-module kit. There needs to be an electrical outlet nearby, at one end of the cabinets, or even in the middle, either in the backsplash or perhaps behind the fridge.
How to order:
Go to our "Kit Configurator" page (at the bottom of this page, or on the "Shop" page) which will guide you to:
1. Select number of modules (10 for this 5 foot example).
2. Choose the color you desire (there are pictures on the Kit Configurator page showing the various shades of "white" to help you choose),
3. Choose either an on/off switch or a remote control (the Configurator will prompt you) or whatever control you desire.
Then just add it to your cart.
The kit will automatically include the LED modules, a wall adapter, the control, and some self adhesive clips to hold wires in place.
Installation:
When the kit comes in the mail you'll simply wipe areas under cabinets with a little alcohol to assure good adhesion, peel and stick the LED modules in place, plug the adapter into an outlet, and turn them on.
What about kitchens with separated countertop on opposite sides of the room?
This is another good example where Wolf-Lighting LED modules are really nice. Let's say you have some more countertop on the other side of the sink or microwave or on the other side of the room. The simplest thing to do is configure ANOTHER kit to fit the width of THAT section of countertop. Both kits will come with their own power adapters to plug into outlets near their section of countertop. Both kits will also have their own control, and clips, and if you select the "RF Remote Control" for both kits, either remote control will control both sets of lights! Leave the remotes at opposite ends of the room, or use one and keep the other in a drawer as a spare. Either one will change brightness of BOTH sets of countertop together even though they are wired/powered separately. This works because the remote controls are identical and share the same frequency. It would be like pressing your garage door opener in your car and it opens not only your garage but both of your neighbors' garage doors too.
Other applications:
Wolf-Lighting LEDs can also be used almost anywhere else in the home, or even in some outdoor locations as they are water resistant IP-65 commercial LED modules (spray resistant but not for long-term water submersion). Light cabinet shelves, closets, under-bed, under-crib, porch/deck railing, workbench, almost anywhere. For under bed or crib, you could use a MOTION SENSOR control in conjunction with a mini-dimmer so it comes on when you leave the bed or approach the crib.
Closets:
If you have a pantry or closet with a light bulb in the ceiling, these are perfect for Wolf-Lighting LED kits. Using a little screw-in outlet, you can convert the light bulb socket to a single electrical outlet. Then plug your kit's power adapter into it, use the wire clips or some self-stick wire conduit (available on the Shop page) to route the wire from the light fixture over to where you want to stick the LED modules. Then stick them across the width of the ceiling facing down, or across the wall over the door facing in, or around the perimeter of the door opening of a pantry (facing inward at the shelves to light each shelf which was previously dark when the only light was coming from the light bulb above). If the light bulb-turned-outlet is far from where you want to mount the LEDs, you can also use an extension cord from the bulb/outlet and then plug the LED's power adapter into that.
China cabinets:
More skilled DIY-ers can light china cabinet shelves. The beauty of Wolf-Lighting kits is their flexibility to exactly match your application. For example, you can cut the LED strings between ANY two modules to get the exact desired length, then either install with the modules stretched apart the full 6 inches, or with modules closer together and securing the excess wire with self adhesive wire clips. Usually leaving modules 6 inches apart gives plenty of light for a china cabinet, and in fact you will usually dim them down from full brightness anyway.
To jump between shelves, order some extra white spring connectors and some speaker wire to make little 12V power "extensions" to pass power between shelves. These wires can be run hidden from view using adhesive clips (order a few extra...kits come with 8). You will likely want to mount the LED modules under the front edge of each shelf and probably add some small corner-round molding in front of the LEDs to hide them from direct viewing while still allowing their light to shine down onto the shelf below.
Then drill a tiny hole in the back of the cabinet to run the power adapter wire through to plug into the wall somewhere behind or near the cabinet.
For these applications where the lights stay on most all the time, and are usually dimmed, you could select the "mini dimmer" in your kit which allows setting brightness and remembering it when power is off. Also you can add to the cart a simple on/off switch. Or just order a remote control instead of either of these controls to do the same thing. Kits can be configured many ways, and you can even change the control later since the controls are all plug and play compatible.
In CONCLUSION:
Please email with questions and/or scroll to the bottom of this page and click the "Custom LED Kit Configurator" link to put your kit together (the link is also on our "Shop" tab). Look down through the instructions there to decide what color you prefer for your application (most prefer Warm or White for kitchens, or Bright White for a pantry). Then select the LED quantity (power supply is automatically included by the Configurator), select the control (Remote Control, simple switch, etc), and when done just add the kit to your cart. Configure a separate kit for each section of LEDs that are to be powered separately.
See also "Wiring Instructions" on this site for further details, and please email with any questions.

Further "optional" details:
Our LED modules have 3M self-adhesive backing for "peel and stick" easy installation. You can use them just about anywhere because they are small and low profile. We also offer tiny screws to secure modules onto rough surfaces that don't lend themselves to good adhesion.
There are no batteries to replace since our LEDs use a wall adapter plugged into a household outlet, then supply safe low voltage (12VDC) to your LEDs.
Regarding the RF Remotes all being on the same channel, this is why any remote can control any kit. This works nicely in kitchens with separate countertop sections that are relatively close together as discussed above. But usually if you were to have our LED kits in other places in the home, generally the distance between rooms is far enough that you can take any remote with you from room to room and affect only the lights in that room. This seems to give the best of both worlds for convenience and control options.
Another benefit of our LEDs over light bars and other "fixed" products is that they are able to be customized, even after you install them. Let's say a month after installing an LED kit you decide you want to add a motion sensor to turn them on instead of the switch or RF Remote you initially purchased. You can still order a motion sensor and replace the previous switch or remote control. We'll show you how to swap it.
